20.8% of Bulgarians say they want to live under authoritarian rule, another 10% are supporters of communism, indicates a survey conducted by Alpha Research agency commissioned by the Human and Social Studies Foundation-Sofia.
64% of the respondents say they support democratic rule. In Sofia support for liberal democracy stands at 81%, in regional cities – 73%, whereas in villages and small towns this percentage is 55.
61% of Bulgarians support the country’s membership of the EU, 16% say they do not. In the 2017-2024 period approval of NATO has soared from 28% to 40%, with disapproval levels remaining practically unchanged (26%-28%).
