Minister Atanas Zapryanov willing to remain in new caretaker cabinet

Military Minister Atanas Zapryanov has confirmed to journalists that he would accept to remain in the next caretaker cabinet if offered the post.

"The main long-term priority in the next caretaker mandate will be personnel. We will develop a campaign focused primarily on recruitment, aimed at making the military profession more attractive," the minister said. He stressed that the main focus will be on retaining personnel and ensuring their long-term career development within the military.

"Our assistance to Ukraine also remains very important," Atanas Zapryanov stressed, recalling that it is not unreimbursed, as Bulgaria receives substantial compensation. The Minister also mentioned that he had received assurances from the Prime Minister and the Minister of Finance that the funds from this compensation would be used to modernise the army.

Atanas Zapryanov made the remarks during a visit to Plovdiv Airport, where the annual joint Bulgarian-American flight training exercise "Thracian Summer 2024" is being held.
