The administration of Sofia municipality is mulling raising the tourist tax which has remained unchanged for ten years. Raising the tax, collected from the visitors to the capital city every day, is connected with the intention by Sofia Mayor Vassil Terziev to provide more financing to tourism and for the presentation of the city along international tourism channels.
By upping the tourist tax, the municipal enterprise for tourism will have the necessary funding for popularizing Sofia as a tourist destination. The changes proposed are expected to bring in approximately 4 million Leva (EUR 2 million) in additional revenue. This money can be invested in a high-quality tourist brand and the preservation of the tourist infrastructure.
