Located in the Northwestern portion of Mount Rila in the valley of the River Malyovitsa, the mountain hut called Malyovitsa is among the most popular huts for hikers in Bulgaria. There they can take a breather, have something to eat, and use it as a starting point for climbing a number of mountain peaks – Malyovitsa, Elenin Peak, Orlovets etc.
The first stone of the mountain hut, rising at an altitude of 1,960 m., was laid in 1934 by tourists from Pernik, from the tourist society Golo Burdo, 360mag.bg reports. Having been built in 2-3 months, the hut was officially opened on 2 September, 1934, the ceremony being attended by more than 500 tourists. However, the building subsequently proved to be too small to accommodate the multitude of tourists coming here, so it was extended and an additional storey was added.
