Setting a new Guinness record

Bulgarians are the first to row across the Arctic Ocean

Bulgarians are the first in the world to have dared and succeeded in crossing from end to end the most unpredictable ocean expanse - the Arctic Ocean, by rowing boat.

Stefan and Maxim Ivanov, father and son, who have previously undertaken extreme expeditions with the boat they designed, "Neverrest" (or Never rest until you reach your Everest!), docked in Svalbard, Norway, late on Sunday evening, completing yet another mission.

They now hold 10 Guinness World Records and, according to Nova TV, are on course to set more with this latest crossing. Stefan and Maxim spent days cooped up in their cabin, waiting for four storms to pass. Four years ago they also successfully crossed the Atlantic in their boat.

"We are delighted to have the opportunity to support Assoc. Prof. Lyubomir Kenderov from the Faculty of Biology at Sofia University "St. Kliment Ohridski" in his research on climate change. Throughout the crossing we collected dozens of plankton samples from a depth of 50 metres

Assoc. Prof. Kenderov started this research in the Antarctic, around the Bulgarian base on Livingstone Island, and now we are continuing it in the Arctic. So we feel that our expedition is not only an adventure, but also a contribution to science and possibly to environmental protection," the father and son rowing duo wrote on Facebook.
