New chair of SAC is expected to be elected on February 13

The Judges' College of the Supreme Judicial Council (SJC) is preparing the procedure for election of the Chair of the Supreme Administrative Court (SAC). The mandate of the Georgi Cholakov expires in November, the website Lex reported. 

On September 16, the Committee on Appraisals and Competitions to the Supreme Judicial Council will discuss the selection schedule. The plan is for the procedure to be opened by the Plenum of the SJC on October 3. By law, nominations are made in the next 4 meetings of the SJC or by October 31. 

According to the Judiciary Act, at least three members of the Judges' College, the Minister of Justice and the Plenum of the Supreme Court may make proposals for chair of the Supreme Administrative Court. It is expected that the hearing of the candidates for the position and the election would be held on February 13, 2025. At least 17 votes are needed for a successful election.
