Bulgaria's President Rumen Radev described his meeting with the President of the Republic of North Macedonia Gordana Siljanovska-Davkova, which took place on Friday, September 13, in Sofia, as constructive and frank in a friendly atmosphere. Siljanovska-Davkova visited the Bulgarian capital to attend the production of the opera Nabucco by Giuseppe Verdi of the National Opera and Ballet of the Republic of North Macedonia, which was presented at the Sofia Opera and Ballet.

In response to criticism from Skopje that the absence of the flag of the Republic of North Macedonia at the meeting in the presidency in the Bulgarian capital was a provocation, President Radev responded: "Let it be clear. This was neither a state nor a working visit. I hope that in the near future the president of the RSM will make a state visit, which will be with all official ceremonies according to protocol and will contribute to the further development for our relations".

He noted that the president of the RSM recently paid a state visit to Bulgaria. "If we follow the protocol, now it is right for me to go and I will expect to receive an official invitation," emphasized the Bulgarian head of state.

Yesterday, Siljanovska's office announced that they would request explanations on the case from the Bulgarian side.
