All non-household consumers will be compensated for the high cost of electricity by the end of the year, the government has decided.

The European Commission has given the green light for the subsidy, the energy minister said. According to preliminary estimates, €280.7 million will be needed to compensate companies from July until the end of the year.

"These funds will be provided entirely from the current - and future - revenues of the Electricity System Security Fund. We do not foresee any contribution from the state budget for this measure," said Energy Minister Vladimir Malinov.
