Archaeologists unearth another Roman statue in Heraclea Sintica

Bulgarian archaeologists have discovered a second statue in the large sewage channel of the ancient city of Heraclea Sintica. Around 11 a.m. on September 20, the team led by Professor Dr. Lyudmil Vagalinski came across another marble sculpture near the place where a very well-preserved statue, which is believed to depict the Olympian deity Hermes, was found in July.

This was reported by the archaeologists on their specialized site, Archaeologia Bulgarica, informed BGNES. The statue of Hermes, discovered in Heraclea Sintica, is now on display in the History Museum in Petrich. The museum said that it will be conserved in front of visitors. It is assumed that the statues were buried and hidden in the channel after the official conversion to Christianity.
