At the border with Romania outward bound traffic at Nikopol and Kardam border checkpoint is heavy for trucks. At the border with Serbia outward bound traffic for trucks is also heavy at Kalotina border checkpoint, the Directorate-General for Border Police says.
Due to major repair work in the Bulgarian section of Danube Bridge at Russe, temporary traffic management is in place, with traffic taking place in one lane in pass-through mode. Besides Russe border crossing, drivers can also travel via the border checkpoints Silistra, Kardam, Durankulak, Kaynardzha and Krushari – trucks are not allowed across Kaynardzha and Krushari which are open from 8 AM until 8 PM every day.
At the border with Greece traffic is normal at all border checkpoints. Due to the significant increase in Romanian tourists travelling across Kulata and Makaza border crossings towards Greece, the Border Police are recommending alternative checkpoints on the Bulgarian-Greek border where traffic is not so intensive. Tourists travelling to the resorts in the region of Thessaloniki, Kavala and Chalkidiki Peninsula can take the route via Ilinden border checkpoint, with Kulata as an alternative. Tourists travelling towards resorts in Xanthi, Komotini and the island of Thassos can use Zlagograd border crossing, as an alternative to Makaza. Vehicles travelling to Alexandroupolis are advised to travel via Kapitan Petko Voyvoda border checkpoint.
At Makaza, Zlatograd and Ivaylovgrad border checkpoints only cars and vans are allowed through.
At the border with North Macedonia and with Turkey, traffic is normal at all border checkpoints.
