The European Commission has proposed to allocate €119.7 million to directly support farmers in Bulgaria, Germany, Estonia, Italy and Romania affected by adverse natural phenomena in 2024. Bulgaria is reported to have been affected by a drought this summer which damaged all crops planted in spring, especially corn and sunflower.

Bulgaria is expected to receive 10.9 million euros from the amount, Germany - 46.5 million, Estonia - 3.3 million, Italy - 37.4 million and Romania - 21.6 million euros.

The announcement adds that the sums may be doubled as aid for these damages from the national budgets. The aid is scheduled to be granted by April 30, 2025.

By the end of this year, countries must notify Brussels of the conditions for granting the aid. It is specified that the proposal should receive the approval of all EU countries at the beginning of October.
