Bulgarians live in good health longer than most citizens of the European Union, according to Eurostat data. This country is more than 4 years ahead of the average levels in the EU at the backdrop of having the lowest life expectancy and long-unsolved problems in healthcare.
According to European statistics, Bulgarians can live in good health for 66.7 years - 4.1 more than the average value for other countries. First in the ranking is Malta with 70.2 years.
The Institute for Market Economics explained that the study was based on self-reported health status. "Access to health care in this country is limited, the system does not stimulate prevention and early diagnosis and many people live in delusion about their health," the institute commented.
