The deadline for Bulgarians living abroad to apply for the opening of polling stations for the early parliamentary elections on October 27 expires on October 1 at midnight. By law, polling stations abroad are opened in Bulgaria’s diplomatic and consular offices. However, additional polling stations may be opened in locations where at least 40 applications for voting abroad have been submitted in advance. The submission of an application is not a condition for voting. It can only facilitate the process if enough voters gather at the respective polling stations.
By October 5, the Central Election Commission must designate the locations in the countries where polling stations will be established and determine the number of polling stations at each location for the October 27 elections. Bulgaria opened 769 polling stations in 60 countries for the previous elections on June 9.
