At the moment, there is no direct threat to our country stemming from the sharp deterioration of the security environment in the Middle East, President Rumen Radev announced after the three-hour meeting of the Consultative Council on National Security. He added that Bulgaria joins the calls of the international community for de-escalation of tensions in the region and preventing other countries from being drawn into the conflict.

The risk of migration flows and terrorist attacks is increasing. This is another conclusion of the leaders of the main political parties, services and ministries. They also believe that it is necessary to continue the consolidated efforts to evacuate Bulgarians from the conflict zone, as well as to rescue the Bulgarian hostages in Yemen.

The council made six recommendations to the executive power, including preventive measures against terrorist acts, strengthening border security, strengthening cooperation with similar security services and revising the National Plan for Countering Terrorism.

The Bulgarian head of state pointed out that the country is close to conflicts in the Middle East and Ukraine, highlighting the instability of the Western Balkans.
