Two weeks after the marathon swim in the Danube, when Tsanko Tsankov swam a distance of 120 kms. nonstop, the achievement was officially ratified by the World Record Association.
The swimmer received an authenticity certificate from the association and was congratulated on the success achieved on 19 September. According to the document, the swim took place according to open waters rules with a standard textile knee-length swimsuit, goggles, and a swim cap.
Tsanko Tsankov had to swim more than 100 kms. in open waters twice in the space of 12 days to officially set the record. He did so for the first time on 6 September, to mark Bulgaria’s Unification Day, but his result was contested.
“Despite the smear campaign organized against me from the first swim in the Danube, I proved that the truth and good will always come to the fore. This document is extremely valuable and I am thankful to all Bulgarians for the incredible support. Nothing can stop me from representing Bulgaria in any point anywhere in the world in open waters,” said Tsanko Tsankov.
