Bulgaria bought, but then destroyed or donated more than 5.5 million Covid vaccines. In total, this country has paid almost 250 million euros of its own funds to buy 8,488,620 doses of vaccines against the virus that caused the pandemic, according to data provided to BTA under the Access to Public Information Act. 1,931,992 vaccines were destroyed due to expiration.

More than 3 million vaccines have been donated to countries that did not have easy access to vaccines because they are not part of the EU. It is a curious fact that Bulgaria donated an impressive amount to Iran - 2,830,400 doses. A total of 308,570 vaccine doses were provided to Bosnia and Herzegovina, 270,000 to Bangladesh, 172,500 to Bhutan, and 51,480 to North Macedonia.
