The Sofia Regional Police Directorate is conducting a special police operation against vote-buying ahead of the early parliamentary elections on 27 October. The operation focused on the municipalities of Kostenets and Dolna Banya, and by midday 76 people and 60 vehicles had been checked and six people arrested. Gendarmerie officers also took part in the operation.

There are checkpoints at the entrances to the two municipalities, said Commissioner Petar Sokolov head of the Security Police Department with the Sofia police. Checks have been carried out in private homes and businesses, he said, adding that gambling halls and pawn shops will also be searched.
