BSP and ITN will ask the Constitutional Court to give the full rights to form a caretaker cabinet back to the president, Borislav Gutsanov from BSP - United Left has told the BNR. "BSP-United Left will be the guardians of the Constitution, but of the one adopted by the Great National Assembly 33 years ago and not of this misunderstanding that leads to the collapse of statehood," he commented.

After the changes to the Constitution from the end of 2023, supported by PP-DB, GERB and DPS, the head of state can choose an acting prime minister from among a limited circle of people - the chairman of the National Assembly, the governor or deputy governor of the Bulgarian National Bank, the chairman or deputy chairman of the Audit Office, the ombudsman or their deputy. Before the change, the caretaker prime minister was chosen at the personal discretion of the president. After this opportunity was lost and due to a lack of candidates among those occupying the listed positions, the long-time member of GERB and chairman of the Audit Office, Dimitar Glavchev, served twice as acting prime minister.
