Vice-President Iliana Iotova: This National Assembly lacks legitimacy

Speaking to journalists during her visit to the town of Gotse Delchev in the Blagoevgrad region, Vice-President Iliana Iotova described the newly elected National Assembly as "illegitimate".

According to her, the reports of violations and the growing number of parties calling for the vote to be annulled put into question the fairness of the elections.

"The last parliamentary elections set a precedent," Iotova said. "In Bulgaria's recent history there has always been talk of influence peddling, there has been talk of vote buying, of corporate voting, of intimidation, but now, given that in your district half of the protocols have been tampered with, it seems to me that this is already a very serious diagnosis for all of us and for the fairness of the elections," she said.

She listed the most urgent tasks of the new parliament: "To adopt the country's budget and the laws related to the receipt of EU funds, especially under the Recovery and Resilience Plan, as Bulgaria is at the bottom of the list in receiving these funds.

The President will convene Parliament on 11 November. Today's four-hour first working session of the formations in the new Parliament allowed them to determine the seats that the political groups will occupy, with the biggest dispute being over who will occupy the front row seats.
