The inclusion of Bulgarians in the constitution of the Republic of North Macedonia should happen after the country becomes a member of the European Union. This is what North Macedonian President Gordana Siljanovska-Davkova proposed to the Bulgarian head of state Rumen Radev in Baku, Siljanovska claimed in an interview with the Macedonian Radio Television. According to her, the Bulgarian president did not comment on the expressed intention.

Days after the conversation, Rumen Radev said that Skopje is aware of the Bulgarian position and the constitutional changes must enter into force before the start of negotiations for the country’s accession to the EU. “As a good lawyer, Ms. Siljanovska is very clearly aware that the commitments made under international agreements must be fulfilled,” he pointed out.

On the social network X, the Bulgarian president congratulated the former North Macedonian defence minister Radmila Shekerinska on her appointment as NATO Deputy Secretary General and expressed the expectation that her work will contribute to strengthening the collective defence and security of the alliance.
