Bulgarian writer Georgi Gospodinov is one of twelve writers from around the world invited to become international members of the British Royal Society of Literature, the organisation announced on its website. The writers were selected by a committee of the society from over a hundred nominations. The selection was unanimously approved by the organisation's board of directors.
The Royal Society of Literature was founded 204 years ago by King George the Fourth to honour literary merit and encourage literary talent.
The RSL International Writers is a new programme announced in 2020 to celebrate "the power of literature to transcend borders and shape a future world".

Joining the society is a lifetime honour. Each year, 12 new writers will be invited to join the RSL's International Writers, forming an ever-expanding global community of writers.
