We Continue the Change/Democratic Bulgaria (PP/DB) will propose the setting up of a parliamentary commission of inquiry to conduct a large-scale investigation into Russian influence in the country, said PP/DB MP Ivaylo Mirchev in an interview with Mediapool.

PP/DB’s proposal comes after the revelations of the existence of the disinformation network which swayed the presidential election in Romania, Ivaylo Mirchev says. “It turned out that the Russian digital agency engaged in the campaign of nationalist presidential candidate in Romania Calin Georgescu is connected with more than 50 Bulgarian companies, registered in Plovdiv, with the same owner. It has been clear for years that Russian propaganda has seeped into Bulgaria via financing, mostly by way of Kremlin-connected energy companies, even though in the past two years these capital flows have been severely restricted,” he said.
