''After the accession to Schengen, we need to improve the infrastructure on the border with Turkiye, Serbia and Romania to facilitate traffic and to make it faster and more convenient'', MEP Emil Radev said in an interview with the Bulgarian National Radio. ''Transport was particularly affected. For example, goods destined for Central Europe passed through Rotterdam, while the ports of Varna, Burgas and Constanța were not competitive'', Emil Radev went on to say.
''The entry into Schengen will give an additional boost to the Black Sea ports. We just need to improve the infrastructure leading to the border checkpoints. The roads to the Danube Bridge 2 and the bridge near Ruse are at full capacity and cannot handle the traffic. We also need to improve transport corridors such as Veliko Tarnovo - Ruse and the Hemus Motorway to make traffic easier and faster, allowing tourists, goods and trucks to reach the interior of Europe", said MEP Radev.
