Bulgaria's Consul General in New York Angel Angelov has taken part in an online discussion organized by an educational platform on Holocaust issues and dedicated to the saving of Bulgarian Jews in the Second World War, BTA reports.

A special guest was Sasha Wilson, an American actress and theater director of Bulgarian origin, who co-authored and starred in the play "The Brief Life and Mysterious Death of Boris III, King of Bulgaria".
The topic of Sasha Wilson's presentation was "Balkan Hope: How Nearly 50,000 Bulgarian Jews Were Saved from Deportation During World War II". She explained how in the library of her grandfather, who emigrated from Bulgaria to the United States during World War II, she came across Stefan Gruev's book "Crown of Thorns: The Reign of Boris III 1918-1943". Then she read other books, including "Beyond Hitler's Grasp" by Michael Bar-Zohar.

Together with her partner Joseph Cullen, Sasha Wilson ended up writing the play dedicated to the rescue of Bulgarian Jews during the Holocaust.
