2025 marks the fifteenth anniversary of the discovery of the relics of St. John the Baptist during excavations on an island near Sozopol by a team led by archaeologist Professor Dr. Kazimir Popkonstantinov. The authenticity of the discovery has been confirmed in specialized laboratories at universities in Oxford and Copenhagen.

On this occasion, on January 30, the town of Vratsa (Northwestern Bulgaria) will host the premiere of a documentary dedicated to this important discovery. The author of the film is Hristo Iliev, who told BTA that Professor Popkonstantinov is one of the greatest historians, archaeologists, epigraphers and theologians in Europe, a recipient of the Herder Prize for special merits for European culture. Professor Popkonstantinov will attend the screening, along with opera singer Harry Draganov, who wrote the music for the film.
