A film with Bulgarian involvement is among the Oscar nominees

''The Man Who Could Not Remain Silent'' was nominated for an Academy Award in the category of Best Live Action Short Film. It is a co-production with Bulgarian participation was and was created in collaboration with Katya Trichkova from Contrast Films.

The film is based on real events and takes place in 1993 in Štrpci, Bosnia and Herzegovina. The passenger train from Belgrade to Bar is stopped by paramilitary forces during an ethnic cleansing operation. As they haul off innocent civilians, only one man out of 500 passengers – Tomo Buzov – dares to stand up against them. The short film has won the Golden Palm for Best Short Film at the Cannes Film Festival and the European Film Award in the same category. It is directed by Nebojsa Slijepcevic, and there is also Bulgarian involvement in the costumes, sound design, makeup and hairstyling.
