The balance that we need between needs and realistically achievable commitments is very important because there is a real danger that some of the major infrastructure projects would be delayed at the expense of others. This was what Minister of Regional Development and Public Works Ivan Ivanov told the Bulgarian National Radio. The main issue is the financing of 2,494 submitted regional projects. 77% of them have been approved for financing. Ivanov pointed out that the completion of each project would require a total resource of about 3.5 billion euros, which obviously will not be available this year.
The minister pointed out the construction of the Cherni Osam dam for water supply to Pleven and Lovech and the implementation of delayed road projects in northern Bulgaria, including the Hemus Highway as critically important projects for which state funds must be found.
