Indian-Bulgarian business chamber: We need import of workers from India

The demographic crisis is one of the biggest problems in Bulgaria and its solution depends on whether the country will continue to grow economically in order to reach an equal standard with the rest of EU member states. The only possible solution for the lack of qualified and non-qualified employees that we urgently need to hold and increase the rate of economic growth, is the import of manpower from India. This was stated by Dr. Petar Velev, chairman of the Indian-Bulgarian Business Chamber, in an interview for BGNES.

"There is a huge lack of qualified and non-qualified workers. In 2023 we had a deficit of 280,000 workers. The most alarming is the situation in healthcare where according to official data we need between 3,000 to 4,000 nurses, and the real numbers are between 13,000 and 16,000 nurses", the enterpreneur says.

"The best thing is that India has signed an agreement with the EU for regulating the process of securing manpower. Its government has committed to find solutions if there are issues with unlawful workers. That is it is committed to solve the problem with migrations", states Dr. Velev.
