Bulgarian Finance Minister Temenuzhka Petkova will travel to Brussels to provide an update on Bulgaria’s progress towards euro area accession. The Finance Ministry has confirmed that Minister Petkova will participate in the Eurogroup meeting on 17 February, dismissing speculation that she might not attend the forum.

According to the provisional agenda published by the EU Council, the progress of Bulgaria is the first item scheduled. Minister Petkova will also attend the 18 February meeting of the Economic and Financial Affairs Council (ECOFIN), where EU finance ministers will hold their regular discussions.

Amid concerns about whether Bulgaria would request an extraordinary convergence report for euro area entry, Minister Petkova reassured the Bulgarian Parliament. She confirmed that at the Eurogroup meeting on 17 February, she would update European partners on Bulgaria's fiscal framework and progress in meeting the criteria for adopting the euro.
