GERB leader Boyko Borissov told reporters that he supports the position of US President Donald Trump for peace in Ukraine, but that he insists on Bulgaria remaining loyal to its European partners. The policy of the new US administration may pose a risk to the Bulgarian economy, he believes. “The fact that sanctions are expected or a raising of tariffs on the territory of Europe again, that is not a good thing for us. Our car factories are mostly assembly plants for German and French factories and tariffs like this will immediately bring down production in Europe. As a country, the US is our strategic partner, while the European Union is our European family,” Boyko Borissov said.
Borrissov warned of a risk of a migration wave from Ukraine after the end of the war and urged the special services to prepare for the consequences.
