CEC: There will be no recount of ballots from the last elections

There will be no recount of ballots from the recent parliamentary elections in October 2024. The Central Election Commission (CEC) met today after the Constitutional Court yesterday ordered a recount of the parliamentary election results due to numerous irregularities found by the court. 

The CEC said that the Information Services would have to recalculate the results and thus the mandates in the 51st Parliament, as they are responsible for the computerisation of the electoral process according to the Electoral Code. The court-appointed experts found discrepancies between the actual and declared results in over 46% of the polling stations inspected. Rositsa Mateva, deputy chairwoman and spokeswoman for the CEC, insisted that the CEC was not tasked with recounting the ballots, as reported in the Bulgarian media.
Citing concerns about the integrity of the results, all parties in the 51st National Assembly except GERB and DPS-New Beginning, led by Delyan Peevski, called for the elections to be annulled. The Velichie party also applied for annulment, as it was 21 votes short of entering the National Assembly.
