The European Commission hopes to have a positive decision this year on at least part of the second payment under the Recovery and Resilience Plan in the amount of 653 million euros for Bulgaria. This was stated by the Commission spokesman Maciej Berestecki.

Bulgaria's Deputy Prime Minister Tomislav Donchev announced yesterday that Bulgaria would certainly lose this money. Later, however, he said that the government would try to save at least part of the amount.
Berestecki stressed that the Commission is still examining Bulgaria's application to receive this money, sent in October 2023. According to the preliminary assessment from last year, some key milestones have not been met. The assessment was also supported by the Economic and Financial Committee of the Council of the EU, reports BNR correspondent in Brussels Angelina Piskova.
