Re-registration of persons from Ukraine under temporary protection in Bulgaria begins

The re-registration of displaced persons from Ukraine who have temporary protection in Bulgaria will take place from March 4 to April 30. This will be done at the police stations across the country based on the address registration of people who have already been registered with the territorial units of the State Agency for Refugees.

In accordance with a joint EU decision of 4 March 2024, on February 19, 2025, the government adopted a decision to extend the temporary protection for refugees from Ukraine until March 4, 2026.

Some 80,000 people under temporary protection are expected to renew their registration cards. According to data released at the end of 2024 by the Embassy of Ukraine in Sofia, over 14,000 Ukrainians work and pay taxes in Bulgaria. Family members of these individuals are also eligible for protection.
