Greenpeace Bulgaria holds protest in protection of oceans

Greenpeace - Bulgaria are calling on the Bulgarian government to ratify the UN International Ocean Agreement. The organization has placed a large pink inflatable octopus in front of the building of the Council of Ministers in central Sofia to draw attention to their campaign.

Bulgaria was among the first countries to sign the agreement in 2023, but since then the second step has not been taken, said environmentalist Martin Tomov. He stressed that the ratification of the agreement would be a historic moment for the country as well.

Greenpeace Bulgaria hopes that the ratification will take place by the opening of the World Oceans Conference in Nice in June 2025.

The environmentalists indicate that they are addressing Prime Minister Rosen Zhelyazkov directly, because at the moment there are no answers to inquiries on the subject from the Ministry of Environment and the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
