Two rescued after trying to reach Bulgaria's Black Sea coast from Odessa in inflatable dinghy

The border police vessel Obzor took part in an operation to rescue two foreigners in the Black Sea. 


The distress call was received on the evening of March 2 via the 112 emergency number. It indicated that there was a rubber dinghy with two people on board about 13 nautical miles east of Cape Maslen Nos. They were first picked up by a fishing boat and then transferred to the border police boat. One of the men is a Turkish national and the other a Ukrainian. 


According to them, they left Odessa three days ago with the intention of reaching Varna.  A check revealed that one of them had been banned from entering or staying in the Schengen area on the initiative of Greece. The two were arrested for illegal border crossing.
