The Eurogroup encourages Bulgaria to adopt the euro, according to a letter by its President Paschal Donohoe to European Council President Antonio Costa. The letter comes in connection with the upcoming meeting of the European leaders in Brussels on 20 March which will focus on the economy and competitiveness of the EU.

“The Euro remains a stable anchor in uncertain times,” the letter reads.  “We monitor the plans of the non-euro area Member states related to euro introduction. In this context, Bulgaria is progressing on its plan to introduce the euro in 2026. (…) We support Bulgaria’s efforts to adopt the euro, based on the agreed criteria which will be evaluated by the institutions this spring. We commend Bulgaria's commitment and encourage further steps to ensure sustainable convergence,” the letter reads.
