"On behalf of the state, we declare war on the property mafia." This was announced at a press conference by Justice Minister Georgi Georgiev. He said that the activities of the real estate mafia had reached unprecedented levels and were characterised by extreme brazenness. He warned those involved in such schemes that they would face the state and its law enforcement authorities head-on.

Speaking at a joint press conference with Sofia's acting prosecutor, Svetlana Dimitrova, and the director of the Sofia directorate of the Interior Ministry, Lyubomir Nikolov, Georgiev said that legislative changes were being prepared in response to a recent case involving 90-year-old Yanka, who lost her property through a decision by a phantom arbitration court. Several people have been arrested in connection with the fraud. "The case to annul the decision of this so-called arbitration court is in the hands of three judges of the Supreme Court," the Minister of Justice added.
