Reconstruction of the "Kapitan Andreevo" border checkpoint on Bulgaria's border with Turkey should begin within three months. It is expected to last one year and be completed before the start of the increased summer traffic in 2026. This was announced by the Minister of Finance Temenuzhka Petkova. She visited the checkpoint to get acquainted with the reconstruction plans on site. Petkova said that this is Bulgaria’s busiest checkpoint. In 2024, over one million vehicles passed through it.

A contractor has already been selected for the renovation works, as the signed contract is worth 51 million euros. Additional entry and exit routes will be built and the checkpoint for light truck traffic will be expanded. It is expected that after the renovation, the capacity of "Kapitan Andreevo" will increase by 25%.
