Twenty percent reduction in deaths and 20% reduction in road injuries. This goal was announced by Grozdan Karadjov after the end of the meeting on road safety and the fight against the war on the roads, convened by Prime Minister Rosen Zhelyazkov.
The minister pointed out that currently there is no body to investigate serious road accidents. “We have an independent board that investigates such crimes in rail, air and sea transport, but there is none for road transport. We plan to make this a fact through legislative changes,” he said.
Grozdan Karadjov presented some of the 37 measures that will be discussed at today's government meeting. Among them are the simultaneous identification, punishment and delivery of penal decrees to offenders in order to avoid the risk of them hiding. Another measure provides for increased control over the transportation of children and students with the help of technical devices that prevent the engine from starting if the driver has consumed alcohol or drugs.
