EC awards translation prize to 11th grader Alexandra Atanasova

Bulgarian 11th grader Alexandra Atanasova is among the 27 winners of the 18th European translation contest for secondary school students Juvenes Translatores, organized by the Directorate-General for Translation of the European Commission.

As part of the competition, in which 3,700 students from 730 schools across Europe participated, the Bulgarian girl translated an unknown text from English. The prize will be awarded to the student from the Language High School "Prof. Dr. Asen Zlatarov" in Haskovo today at a special ceremony in Brussels. The winners from all countries will have the opportunity to meet the translators at the European Commission and see how they work.

Alexandra speaks seven foreign languages ​​at varying levels, the newspaper "Az-buki" reports. She mainly deals with English and German, which she studies in class, as well as Russian and Turkish. Along with personal endeavors and interests, she also has some knowledge of Portuguese, Japanese, and Chinese, which she studied on her own.
