Bulgaria has asked to withdraw its request to the European Commission for the second payment under the National Recovery and Resilience Plan, the Commission confirmed to BNR. The request was submitted yesterday following coordination with the Commission, reported BNR’s correspondent in Brussels Angelina Piskova.

Yesterday, Deputy Prime Minister Tomislav Donchev said that the government would withdraw the request for a second payment of EUR 653 million, submitted in October 2023, rework it and submit it again. In this way, the government will try to save the funds from the second tranche, which appeared lost several months ago. The Commission confirmed that on April 16, Bulgaria submitted a request for revision of the National Recovery and Resilience Plan. Sofia also seeks to add a chapter to the plan related to the REPowerEU mechanism.
