Commission to assess revisions to Bulgaria's Recovery and Resilience Plan

The European Commission has announced that it has received a request from Bulgaria to revise its national recovery and resilience plan. The Commission will examine the request, submitted by the country on 16 April, and forward it to the EU Council for assessment.
Among the requests to amend Bulgaria's national plan is the withdrawal of the country's commitment to liberalise the household electricity market from 1 July

Speaking at a briefing after the submission of the request, Deputy Prime Minister Tomislav Donchev said that such a reform could only be undertaken once adequate mechanisms were in place to protect Bulgarian consumers. Bulgaria also wants the commitment to ban coal-fired power generation from 2038 to be dropped, leaving only the commitment to an overall annual cap on carbon emissions.
