Bulgarians to be able to exchange leva for euros for free after entering the eurozone

Photo: Archive

The Bulgarian National Bank will exchange free of charge and in unlimited quantities banknotes and coins from leva to euros at the official exchange rate during the first six months after Bulgaria enters the eurozone, it is clear from the BNB website. For amounts over 30 thousand leva per transaction, a prior request will be required.

During the same period, Bulgarian Posts will exchange free of charge banknotes and coins from leva to euros at the official exchange rate in the amount of up to 1,000 leva per day per person. For amounts up to 10 thousand leva, a prior request will be required between three and five business days at the previously announced post offices.

If in years' time we find leva at our home, we will be able to exchange them.
