The Bulgarian national flag has been desecrated in Skopje. The ribbons have been ripped off the wreathes laid at the grave of Gotse Delchev, Bulgarian revolutionary and freedom fighter from the geographic region Macedonia. This act took place in the yard of the St. Spas monastery in North Macedonia, BGNES reports. This is the second time such an act has been perpetrated, the time being on 4 February, the day on which Gotse Delchev’s 153rd birth anniversary was marked.

Gotse Delchev lost his life on 4 May, 1903 near the village of Banitsa near Serres, and his mortal remains now lie in Skopje. As every year, the Bulgarian embassy, cultural institutions and local Bulgarians laid wreathes with the national flag at his grave. After they left the church, the flag ribbons were torn off and discarded – in February and now.
