DB and DPS reject Radev's referendum proposal as inadmissible

At a We Continue the Change-Democratic Bulgaria (PP-DB) press conference at the BTA Press Club in Plovdiv, Ivaylo Mirchev of Democratic Bulgaria criticised President Rumen Radev's proposal for a national referendum on the euro, calling it an "extremely bad signal" to eurozone countries. He warned that such a move would undermine Bulgaria's image as a committed EU member and suggest internal division at a crucial time.

Mirchev stressed that Bulgaria was obliged under its EU accession treaty to adopt the euro once it met the necessary criteria - criteria, he noted, that the country currently met. "There is only one country that doesn't want Bulgaria in the euro zone, and that is Russia," he added. He announced that Democratic Bulgaria would initiate a parliamentary declaration next week reaffirming Bulgaria's pro-European course.

A similar position was expressed by the leader of the Movement for Rights and Freedoms (DPS-DPS) parliamentary group, Dzhevdet Chakarov, during a visit to Haskovo. "Our Euro-Atlantic orientation is final - whether we are in government or in opposition," he said.
