May 24 united Bulgarians around the world, who marked the Day of the Holy Brothers Cyril and Methodius, the Bulgarian alphabet, education, culture, and Slavic literature with various events.
A rich festive program was organised today at the Dimitrie Gusti Village Museum in Bucharest, Romania. Bulgarian folk costumes worn north and south of the Danube were demonstrated and a photographic exhibition featuring members of the Bulgarian community was presented. There were creative workshops for children for painting and making kukeri masks, our mission reported. Since 2015, May 24 has been declared Bulgarian Language Day in Romania.
Greetings for the holiday were also sent by Ukrainian MP and President of the Association of Bulgarians in Ukraine, Anton Kisse, who emphasized: “For more than two centuries, Bulgarians in Ukraine have been passing down the native Bulgarian language, culture, traditions, and customs from generation to generation. In our schools, the clear sound of Bulgarian speech can be heard, and the beautiful Bulgarian folk songs resonate in the cultural centers.”
Bulgarians in Vienna traditionally laid flowers at the monument of the Holy Brothers Cyril and Methodius in the courtyard of the Bulgarian Cultural Institute “House Wittgenstein.” Students of the local Bulgarian-Austrian school “St. St. Cyril and Methodius” gave a festive concert.
May 24 is officially declared Bulgarian Cultural Heritage Day in Niagara Falls, Ontario Province, according to recent news from our General Consulate in Toronto. “Until now, the city had no such initiatives in municipal practice, and Bulgaria is among the first countries that can boast a day of cultural heritage recognized by the municipality,” our diplomats highlighted on Facebook.
