Bulgarian Foreign Minister Georg Georgiev opened the first Bulgarian higher education institution outside Bulgaria in Taraclia, Moldova, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs announced. Mr Georgiev is in the city for today's celebrations for 24 May, the Day of Saints Cyril and Methodius.
During his two-day working visit to Moldova, he and his Moldovan counterpart, Mihai Popșoi, officially opened the Ruse Angel Kanchev University branch in Taraclia and laid flowers at the Saints Cyril and Methodius memorial plaque. They also attended the holiday celebrations of the Bulgarian community.
In his address, Mr Georgiev emphasised that this was a historic day for Taraclia and the Bulgarian community in Moldova, as the opening of the Ruse University branch marked the establishment of the first Bulgarian higher education institution outside Bulgaria.
