The attempts to attack me over the enactment of the law on adoption of the Euro are a manipulation, President Radev says

“The attempts to attack me over the fact that I enacted the law on adoption of the Euro are a vapid manipulation because there are absolutely no dates in this law, there are conditions and procedures,” President Rumen Radev told reporters. He was speaking in Belogradchik where he attended the official celebration of the 175th anniversary of the uprising against Ottoman rule in Northwestern Bulgaria.

Rumen Radev demanded a referendum to be called at which people can say whether they agree to the adoption of the Euro in 2026 but his request was not put to discussion by the National Assembly and he referred the matter to the Constitutional Court.

Did anyone know a year ago that the government would ask for an extraordinary convergence report without conducting a real information campaign, without any real risk assessment, without measures, without any responsibility by the institutions, without procedures and without financial buffers, Rumen Radev asked.

“The attempts by Borissov, Peevski and their government to suggest that inflation is below the required threshold, to present the process of adoption of the euro as a process in which the people have no voice, is a demonstration of arrogance and they should know what the consequences of their behavior will be,” Rumen Radev said
