Rosen Zhelyazkov: Joining the Eurozone will bring long-term benefits

Joining the Eurozone, which includes 20 major European economies, will have an impact for the next 10, 20, 30 years, Bulgaria’s Premier Rosen Zhelyazkov told BNT, as quoted by BTA. According to him, the long-term benefits include a higher credit rating, more investments, promotion of trade and tourism and greater confidence in the Bulgarian economy.

Rounding prices up during currency conversion has occurred in other countries, but the authorities in our country are prepared to prevent this, which is why the implementation of measures will begin not on January 1, 2026, but six months earlier, Premier Zhelyazkov added. He also mentioned that since June 3, the Commission for Consumer Protection has been monitoring pricing in major retail chains.

The information campaign to prepare the public for the introduction of the euro will be specifically targeted at more vulnerable groups. The Ministry of Interior is developing plans to ensure public safety when the currency exchange begins, emphasized Rosen Zhelyazkov.
