Another illegal home for the elderly has been discovered – this time in the village of Govedartsi near Samokov. There are suspicions of inhumane treatment of its 23 residents, the Bulgarian National Radio reported.

The mayor of Samokov, Angel Dzhorgov, described the case as similar to the one in the village of Yagoda, where 75 people were living in appalling conditions.

“The people who operated the facility in Govedartsi were different, but a few months ago the property belonged to the same people who owned the facilities in Yagoda. It is still not clear whether they sold or rented out the home in Govedartsi,” Deputy Minister of Social Affairs Ivan Krastev told Nova TV, quoted by BTA. According to him, the conditions in the home were slightly better, but still deplorable.

The people from Govedartsi have already been evacuated. They are in good health and have been accommodated in different homes, as well as in a separate wing in the multi-profile hospital in Samokov.

"The inspections of places for the accommodation of the elderly will continue," Social Minister Borislav Gutsanov commented on the cases from the villages of Yagoda and Govedartsi, BTA reported. According to him, the inspections will also cover other homes. "Expect more information on the topic," he added.
